Prague

The Czech Republic is right next door, so we took advantage of a long weekend and drove over to Prague on Friday morning. We took the "short" route, which took us through a lot of construction and ended up taking 4.5 hours. We had a fussy baby, who was teething, so that was a long trip. We made it o.k., checked into the hotel and hit the metro downtown. We had no idea how beautiful a city Prague is. The buildings were gorgeous and the city was clean and friendly.

We spent through Sunday exploring, eating and shopping. We bought several pictures, Bohemian crystal, a marionet puppet for Layla and Jonathan's t-shirt, of course. The food was great. It's a lot like German food with all the meat and potatoes, but much spicier and tastier. We bought a basket of mixed fruit from an outdoor market, which Layla loved.

She decided not to sleep the first night in the hotel. I think the combination of a new place and having us in the room didn't let her sleep well. She ended up sleeping fitfully in our bed for a few hours. She was so tired that she slept no problem the next night. Overall she did very well, but we didn't get her out of the stroller for a lot of pictures, because once she was out, she didn't want to go back in.

The drive home went much better. With a different route, we made it in just over 3 hours. Layla slept for the first 2.5 hours. Perfect timing. Perfect end to a wonderful weekend.
