Family Vacation

So, we took our first family get away with the twins a couple of weeks ago. We drove, yes DROVE, to Washingtion D.C. Jonathan had some slow time at work, so we decided to visit his buddy, Chad, who was an integral factor in Jonathan and I meeting for the first time when they were at Ft. Hood and I was in college. Chad now works in D.C. and has a wife and three kids.

We stopped in Nashville on the way there and spent a day touring the city. We walked Music Row, saw the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Star Walk and toured the Grand Ole Opry. We even had a family picture taken on stage. We also spontaneously caught Disney on Ice. Layla loved seeing all the princesses in person.

We spent a day in D.C. seeing the monuments and walking around the city. It was neat to see all those historical monuments up close, but it was a very busy, highly guarded city, which gave me a feeling of paranoia at all times. I'm glad I saw it, but wouldn't lose sleep if I never went back.

The next day we took a quick tour of Arlington Cemetary. It was chilly and drizzling, so we didn't stay long. We weren't prepared and ended up quite wet and cold. We did see Kennedy's grave and the Tomb of the Unknowns. It was, of course, a solemn place, but after reading some information brochures about the history, it is an interesting place.

Layla had such a good time playing with the kids, and all the girls did well on the car ride. We made very good time with minimal stops. The babies mostly slept and ate, and Layla entertained herself with toys and watched DVDs. It was also a great time of year to be heading east. The trees were changing color and we got into some hills and mountains.

Next post will be of Halloween and Layla's costume. She's too cute.
