Happy Easter

We decided to actively celebrate Easter on Saturday, since Sunday's weather outlook was less than optimal. We took Layla to downtown Granbury where the Easter Bunny was to be present and taking free pictures. I imagined a giant bunny sitting in a chair with decorations around a camera on a tripod quickly printing out digital images. Sounds about right, huh? Nope. We got a lady in a bunny suit standing by the court house with a woman taking off-center Polaroid photos. It is Hooterville. I should have known. I did take my camera, so we got a few shots. Layla was not scared of the EB at all. She waved, reached out to him and touched his nose. I was shocked.
I've been curious as to what a rabbit has to do with Easter and why he's hiding eggs, so I did some research. In case you didn't know, the rabbit came from the pre-Christian anglo-saxons who worshipped the goddess of fertility and spring, Eastre. Of course her symbol was the rabbit. When the missionaries converted the pagans to Christianity, the spring celebration coincided with the memorial of Jesus' resurrection, so they were combined into one celebration...Easter.

Now that's where the rabbit came from. The hiding of eggs and baskets actually came from Germany in the 1600s where children made "nests" out of bonnets and hid them in the house, where the EB would fill them with brightly colored eggs during the night if they'd been good children. Interesting. Well, it was to me.

So, Layla did some egg hunting of her own. Well, she was excited about finding the first two eggs, then just wanted to sit and play with them instead of hunting for more. She's only got two hands, right? So, we decided to halt egg hunting and take pics of the fun.

Happy Easter!! Happy Easter!! Happy Easter!! Happy Easter!!
